I have 16 pumpkins very nearly ready to harvest 🤩

There’s no way to eat them all ourselves, we only eat it as pumpkin soup, but I love growing them. I’ll be giving some to family. The rest I want to swap for things like apples, pears, and quinces if anyone local has them. I think the reason why they’ve grown so well is because of our hot and dry summer

@MoviesSilently I used Epsom salts on mine and they went from yellow, not fruiting to huge growth, green as and laden with fruit!

systems are looking healthy! Got some good looking trusses on the tomatoes, Cherry Berry is going particularly nuts!
Blumat watering system has required almost no tweaking and the plants (and myself) are very pleased with it so far.

Finally some progress on the passive tomato/chilli system. Set up a super janky stand for the 200L reservoir and mixed up a batch of 2.2 EC 6.0 pH nutrient. Because I'm watering with Blumats which use very small feed tubes I've also added some Hypochlorous Acid (Athena Cleanse) to the system to reduce buildup of nutrient salts - we'll see how that goes. Now to put in the Blumats!

When I started gardening I only grew fruit and veg, and not very well. Then we built up a native section. But the part that gives me the most joy is the picking garden. This is the first full boquet of roses of the season.

Did a census today of my pohutukawa tray to distract myself from the dying rose cuttings.
I counted 48 germinations that seen to be alive plus a few that have already died.

So call it 50ish from 100 seeds. That's really very good. The first year I got 0. Last year I got about 15 from 200 seeds. This year I've gotten about 50 from 100. I think being in the warm window, head pad and keeping things damp really makes the difference

NZ gardening folk - suggestions please!! This is the west facing side of the house, and has been much neglected wrt gardens and planting. The side by the house is dry with poor soil. The side by the fence gets good rain and reasonable daytime sun, soil is clay with thin layer of topsoil. Prefer native species but open to other ideas.

A day of drizzly rain, a little pocket of sunshine, then more drizzle. At least the garden seems to have enjoyed it.
