This is a fundamental difference I have with right wing ideas.
Yes, landlords can choose who to rent their place to but the State has a responsibility with all. The same way that public healthcare is available to the most vile criminals. State housing is the last safety net and cannot be made contingent on good behaviour.
Addressing the behaviour does not require making people homeless on purpose

Someone’s spray painted one of the National party’s boards on the way out of Wainuiomata, so it reads “let’s get our country back on Crack” instead of “track” 😅

Overseas Voting in the New Zealand General Election begins September 27th.
I have a goal. I literally want to be the first person to cast my vote, digitally signed with a witness, as soon as ballot papers are available.
I am in the electorate of Dunedin, and I plan to vote two ticks Green this election.
Francisco Hernandez is the candidate for Dunedin I most support, and the Greens have earned my trust and vote through their mahi.
Good luck and vote!

Now there are calculators to compare the tax implications of the Greens and the (g)Nats ... everybody should try both but most importantly, the journalists should report on the differences

With the #nzpol election growing more likely to swing NZ to the right, I've been thinking about a charity effort for folks to donate their unwanted tax-cut (or part of) to funds that support those likely to struggle even harder under a new rw govt.

I didn’t even read your #NZpol toot.
I just imagined a voice ringing out over the Tannoy, “and now Peters out of the far right flying up the rear”.
Just walked past a man wearing a Trump 2024 hat. He might as well have one that says White Supremacy Forever. #NZPol
WANTED: a leftist/commie in ( #AotearoaNZ )
#aotearoa or #australia
( #leftist #commie )
That is interested in starting a
Podcast on either local NZ politics alone, or to talk about and compare what is happening between Australia and Aotearoa, and analyze the situation and try to refer back to unknown history as well (which I'll need help with if possible)
Potentially looking for a #team of trustworthy lefties to make this happen.

It's worth looking at Thailand and Guatemala for how this plays out:
> The US Is Pushing Guns on a Country It Labels Violent and Corrupt
> The National Security Council says Guatemala’s lawlessness is fueling waves of desperate migrants. The Commerce Department has said the instability is a ‘unique opportunity’ for gunmakers.

There's another Bloomberg article describing Thailand's problem with guns thanks to US exporters. #NZpol

I want the media to start asking all political parties what their plan is to drop our emissions by 25-26% in the next two terms to meet our commitments to the Paris agreement. Or the ~48% we need to ensure we stay under 1.5deg
(Graph shows global emissions)
@HardBeingGreen not sure that it would be very popular with any of the kiwi's I know!

Listening to #RNBreakfast and there's a Kiwi pollie, Jamie Strange, on talking about merging Australia and New Zealand
While it makes sense in a lot of ways I'd steer well clear if I was them
A lot of the policies on this list look amazing as bullets on a PowerPoint. This is what he understands. Add some WordArt and you’ll be golden.
They’re mostly contrary to data and have been repeatedly disproven overseas for many years.
He’s threatening boot camps which are notoriously over priced and barely improve outcomes over doing nothing.
He’s waving a crime epidemic at us when the figures show it’s decreasing.
Atrocious and anti-data. #NZpol
Does it incense anyone else that Whakaari (or any other island in Aotearoa) is in private ownership? Oh look, what a surprise, it was the Māori Land Court. Pity confiscating it from white folks would cause too much handwringing. #nzpol
I have serious concerns about the competence of a politician who claims he will get the country “back of track” but building, let’s see, “public infrastructure like roads”.
This muppet is straight out of a Clark & Dawes sketch.
Clark as Luxon: “We’re going to put the country back on track!”
Dawes: By building roads?
L: Gotta build the roads.
D: Where are the trains going to go?
L: The what, Brian?
D: the trains
L: Dunno what you’re talking about.
Does anyone here know how I can get hold of an actual person at Te Pāti Māori? I've tried their website, and Messenger... crickets. I have a fence that needs a billboard, and I already have a Greens one.
I’ve voted Green since my first general election (well Alliance that first time) in an attempt to pull Labour left. I’m tired. I’m tired of being disappointed by a lack of progressivism in our government. This year, for the first time, I am considering voting Te Pāti Māori because of their tax policy. Aotearoa’s tax system is criminally regressive and punitive. We treat poor folks like they deserve it when it was the intention of the system from the start (see Māori Land Court). #nzpol #votenz
When the life essentials are more expensive, guess who has money for large political donations…
This should make it very clear who is buying our politicians.
