Today, the 4th observing run (O4) of the gravitational-wave detectors has been running for 110 days.

So far, 37 “significant signal candidates” have been announced.

This means that there is a new possible gravitational-wave signal about every three days. Not all candidates will be real, but neither will all signals be found in this “online” analysis. It remains exciting!

Heute läuft der 4. Beobachtungslauf (O4) der Gravitationswellen-Detektoren seit 110 Tagen.

Bislang sind 37 „signifikante Signalkandidaten“ in Netz gegangen.

Damit gibt es ca. alle drei Tage ein neues mögliches Gravitationswellen-Signal. Nicht alle Kandidaten werden echt sein, aber auch nicht alle Signale werden in dieser schnellen Analyse gefunden. Es bleibt spannend!

The 4th observing run (O4) of @LIGO, Virgo, KAGRA and GEO600 has been ongoing for 14 weeks.

So far, 35 significant candidate signal (https://gracedb.ligo.org/superevents/public/O4/) have been found. Not all of them have to be real, but there will also be faint undetected signals.

There is a new signal candidate every 2.8 days.

For comparison, there were also 35 signals in the 2nd half of the previous observing run (O3b), but in 21 weeks – a new signal every 4.2 days.

Seit 14 Wochen läuft der 4. Beobachtungslauf (O4) von @LIGO, Virgo, KAGRA und GEO600.

Bislang wurden 35 signifikante Signal-Kandidaten (https://gracedb.ligo.org/superevents/public/O4/) gefunden. Nicht alle müssen echt sein, aber es wird schwache, noch unentdeckte Signale geben.

Es gibt also alle 2,8 Tage einen neuen Signal-Kandidaten.

Zum Vergleich: In der 2. Hälfte des vorigen Beobachtungslaufs (O3b) gab es auch 35 Signale, allerdings in 21 Wochen – alle 4,2 Tage ein neues Signal.
