Big week for open access and scholarly communications conferences. I popped into #OAI13 earlier this week (among other things to support @openbookcollect) and will be dipping into #JanewayOA23 for the next couple of days.
#OAI13 @kfitz highlights that despite the vision in the BOAI
that OA would "lay the foundation for uniting humanity in a common intellectual conversation and quest for knowledge" today how OA is being implemented may have resulted in reducing equity. #BOAI20 refocuses OA on equity.
Paul Ayris (UCL) now wrapping up our #OAI13 session on "Ownership of scholarly infrastructure". It was a great session today, thank you to all speakers, translator, and to the SKS team. Thanks to @smart314 for collaborating on this session. Stay tuned for the video recordings, continue discussions online, and tune in for the next #OAI13 sessions over the next three days.
After the break, we continue with session 2 of #OAI13. Next up are
* Chiara Di Giambattista (Open Citations)
* Judith Fathallah (Open Book Collective)
* Petr Knoth (CORE)

#OAI13 Update (6/6)
The programme will take into account different time zones to maximize participation opportunities.
For previous #OAI workshops see https://oai.events/previous-oai-workshops/.
Recordings from #OAI12 (2020) can be found in the video repository of @tibhannover : https://av.tib.eu/series/1145/oai12+the+geneva+workshop+on+innovations+in+scholarly+communication
#OAI13 Update (5/6):
We would like to invite papers for the following sessions:
* Implementing the UNESCO recommendations on open science (https://oai.events/oai13-call-for-papers-unesco/)
* Ownership of scholarly infrastructure (https://oai.events/oai13-call-for-papers-ownership-infrastructure/)
* Posters (https://oai.events/oai13-call-for-posters/)
OAI13, The Geneva Workshop on Innovations in Scholarly Communication, will be held virtually from September 4th-8th, 2023. Save the date!
#OAI13 Update (4/6):
Discussion in committee has refined the topics and session leads have been able to ensure that the week-long programme constitutes a rounded selection of themes and topics.
Calls to the community for papers and posters aim to identify leading new
developments which will form a fitting part of the OAI13 programme. The OAI
Workshops are your Workshops – designed to encourage networking, discussion,
debate and sharing.
#OAI13 Update (3/6):
In 2022, as society emerges from the Covid-19 pandemic, Open Science is
becoming part of the ‘new normal’ in many parts of the world. The ability to
share data and information openly during the pandemic allowed people to see
the full potential of Open Science. The session topics of the OAI13 Workshop
have been chosen by the session leads as key themes in the Open Science
debate.
#OAI13 Update (2/6):
OAI meetings have become well-known in Europe and beyond since their
inception in 2001 (https://oai.events/previous-oai-workshops/). They started
as a small community of those interested in innovation in scholarly
communication and have grown into pan-European Workshops which act as a
focus for technical, policy, academic and practical developments in
scholarly communications activity – particularly Open Science.
#OAI13 Update (1/6):
After the success of OAI12 and its attendance of over 1400 people worldwide, the conference will once again be taking place online from 4th to 8th of September 2023 and will feature sessions on:
* Implementing the UNESCO recommendations on #OpenScience
* Ownership of scholarly #infrastructure
* Research #Evaluation
* Open Science in times of conflict
* Diamond #OpenAccess
#oai13 #openscience #infrastructure #evaluation #openaccess
