Abbott slashed the budget for the OAIC in a transparent (sorry) attempt to cripple the public’s right to know what government and public service were doing.

Now it’s perfectly understandable that successive right-wing governments were happy to perpetuate that state of affairs, but now we have a shiny new ShitLite administration.

Just like the National Archives, a truly important part of our democracy’s functioning could be restored to health, not with $300 billion, not even with $1 billion, but with just tens of millions of dollars.

Have they done it? Not on your Nelly. The OAIC remains starved of funds, FOI continues to languish, because NO major party actually wants its machinations exposed to daylight. They’re as bad as each other.
