I am a #history junkie, especially for the place where I live, #Oakland, the #OaklandHills, #JoaquinMillerPark, the #Redwoods.
I transcribed this 1920s article from the #OaklandTribune, part of a really cool series called Ye Olden Oakland Days, describing the history of Lincoln avenue, its residents, the Golden Gate and its naming by John C. #Fremont, and a lot of other interesting information. This would be interesting to #SanFrancisco people.

The wreck of the #CentralAmerica has been in the news lately, due to the auction of its #sunken #gold #treasure, but it's also very meaningful - many from #California, #Oakland and #SanFrancisco died, when it went down. This #1955 edition of the #Knave in the #OaklandTribune tells the story of its sinking. Also, Albert E. Norman reminisces about his neighbors, and the 1848 London Times talks about California Gold. #history #genealogy #stories #newspaper
