I don’t know if this kind of #gardening has a name. However, it seems to be incumbent upon me to allow #nature to plant #cherries and #oaks where it suits me.

It is very nice to see that finally, all three of the oak plants we manage to get growing have decided that life is worth living.
In October, me and my child picked a handful of acorns on our way home from school. Out of those 20-ish seeds we manage to get 6-7 to sprout and 3 to grow proper roots and start growing. 2 of them took a very long time to show any activity after the first growth spurt though, but now #spring has finally coaxed them out of their slumber.

#Oaks being wind-pollinated, loving to speciate and mingle, are more promiscuous. Their plastomes are entirely decoupled from speciation processes but, like in maples, tell us a lot about their origins in the dawn of the Cenozoic and where they have been.
All #Beech are old bastards. Literally. Totally anti-Hennig and anti-Mayr.
Equally wind-pollinated #Birch are not as well studied but there's a general coherence: their seeds can travel as far as their pollen.
