I'm proud of a seventeenth century ancestor of mine, William Bevington, a Quaker from Warwickshire, who in 1672 was released after years of imprisonment, after finally receiving a General Pardon.

His crime? He simply but determinedly refused to swear an to the then .

I suppose that not having to fear prison this time around is at least some mark of progress, but not sure if the would agree.

My middle son, Jed, bears William's name in remembrance.

If the soldiers at the Battle of Hastings pledged "allegiance to Harold & his heirs & SUCCESSORS" that clearly included the foreign invader, William of Normandy. So what's the POINT of this wretched oath they want us all to shout, if it includes any foreign military leader whose army defeats Charles III, overthrows him & gets crowned in his place? Like Putin, say?

Consider this, if most of the armed forces have sworn allegiance to the monarch h than they have sworn to obey the King before the elected Government.

Not saying that King Charles is planning a monarchist coup, but even if he is blithely unaware, he is putting the mechanisms in place by which one would come about in future.

"But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil." What's the status of Québec's law unilaterally amending the constitution and abolishing the for MNAs?

"As it stands it’s all moot, because no one is challenging the law. And of course that’s hardly surprising. “Litigation is expensive, and the issue of the oath requirement doesn’t directly impact people’s lives,”"

"Justin Trudeau seems profoundly uninterested in the topic."
