As someone licensed to practise #engineering in three provinces, I can only say that #OccupationalLicensing doesn't seem to have made civil engineers particularly well-paid in comparison with other fields.

I agree with @donald that the real win for the #HealthCareSystem would be easier and faster recognition of the credentials of people trained abroad.

There is some thinking that #OccupationalLicensing is mostly unnecessary, that protection of the public could be provided by consumer choice and the threat of civil liability; that the chief function of such regimes is to restrict competition and thereby drive up prices.

"Premier Doug Ford said Thursday that new “as of right” rules would see credentials of health-care workers registered in other provinces and territories automatically recognized in Ontario, without the need to register with a regulatory college in this province."

I agree with the article that Canadian healthcare needs structural reform more than it needs money — in particular, I think it should be easier for those trained abroad to be doctors and nurses here.

I wonder though how much the cost problem for Canadians is that we live next to the number one OECD per capita healthcare spender? Not much we can do about that.
