I am organizing at least one session on #occupationallicensing for the 2024 Public Choice meetings. If you're interested, please let me know ASAP with your paper title/abstract/authors, and I will start organizing the session details.
I recently spoke with The Curious Task Podcast about how #occupationallicensing increases barriers for workers. You can listen to the podcast episode here: https://www.podbean.com/pu/pbblog-t5nu9-538037
The audit committee's 4 Democrats vote no on the next two audits, one of work-from home practices & proposals, the other of the state's #OccupationalLicensing agency.

As someone licensed to practise #engineering in three provinces, I can only say that #OccupationalLicensing doesn't seem to have made civil engineers particularly well-paid in comparison with other fields.

I agree with @donald that the real win for the #HealthCareSystem would be easier and faster recognition of the credentials of people trained abroad.
There is some thinking that #OccupationalLicensing is mostly unnecessary, that protection of the public could be provided by consumer choice and the threat of civil liability; that the chief function of such regimes is to restrict competition and thereby drive up prices.

"Premier Doug Ford said Thursday that new “as of right” rules would see credentials of health-care workers registered in other provinces and territories automatically recognized in Ontario, without the need to register with a regulatory college in this province."

I agree with the article that Canadian healthcare needs structural reform more than it needs money — in particular, I think it should be easier for those trained abroad to be doctors and nurses here.
I wonder though how much the cost problem for Canadians is that we live next to the number one OECD per capita healthcare spender? Not much we can do about that.

Remember with the FTC liked to go after actual monopolies? Good times.

We have two sessions on #OccupationalLicensing this year at #ASSA2023 - come check us out if you can. I'll be presenting my joint research on a physician licensing compact on Friday at 2:30, and the second session is Sunday at 8am (but packed full of scholars that make going to an 8am session awesome).

Time for an intro post now that I've linked my RePEc author profile to this account. Only verification system we need! ^_^

Legislature study committee ran out of time Tuesday & didn’t discuss 12 draft bills to change #OccupationalLicensing. None address what people in & outside #WisconsinDSPS call most urgent need: letting the agency spend the fees it collects to beef up staff. My #WisconsinExaminer story this morning.
