Great plenary from Steeve Comeau this morning, providing a great overview of what we know about the likely impact of climate change on coralline algae...

TLDR: there's reason to be optimistic! The future is of course uncertain, but coralline algae *might* fair better than other habitat-forming organisms like corals 👍 BUT, our evidence base is way smaller than other systems... We need to level-up our efforts!

Did you read "Swarm" by Frank Schaetzing?
It's a novel set in and around the . The AWI research vessel Sonne and AWI scientists play a part until they're sunk by *BLEEP*.
The first victim of *BLEEP* is a fisherman on the coast of Peru. And El Nino-La Nina is explained on the side in that scene, too. Behaviour science of wales in Canada plays a part, deep sea RV, Norwegian oil platforms, SETI, French haute cuisine etc.

Published autumn 2004. And those who read it before or on Christmas vacation in Thailand 2004 identified the receding waters as tsunami symptom, warned others, fled to higher ground, and survived the Boxing Day tsunami.
A year later or so, Schaetzing also published a pub-sci book of the research for his novel. This I haven't read. But the Swarm I can recommend as good entertainment and as well researched.

Came out as public TV series this year, including a science spin-off zdf.de/serien/der-schwarm
Also streamed on Amazon Prime. Haven't watched it yet.
Nowadays, Schaetzing is sometimes seen in controversy-driven talkshows as the "pro nature head".
