Hikari's story now done. Even at level 58, that final boss nearly wrecked me in the last round. So far, the 4 final bosses I've beat were infinitely more memorable than anything in the original game.

Finished Partitio's story last night. While that final boss was awesome, I feel a bit disappointed that there was no suplex joke.

Several months later, I finally finished a story arch in #octopath2 and for some reason it was Agnea's. It was about as good as I expected her story to get. (And even then it was probably better than half the stories in the first game)
I finally beat the final boss of this game (not the secret one, will be working on that one later). It was hard, but hella satisfying. I highly recommend Octopath Traveler 2. It’s really good.
Okay, now back to working on ‘The Ess Eff Sea’.

#Today a bit slow because a lot of people are out on spring break. Good because I stayed up too late playing #Octopath2. Maybe I should get that anti-sexual-harassment training done? Exciting! 🙃
Favorite characters: Throné - My starting character. Osvald - another good story/voice and wicked abilities. And surprisingly, Castti - Good combo of abilities and her story is such a mystery I love it. #Octopath2 #videogames #RPG #JRPG #NintendoSwitch

Well I finished all the Chapter 1's in #Octopath2 and now I know who my least fav character is. I dislike Agnea's running animation and how her special abilities are basically flirting to get people to give her things. Maybe as the story progresses she'll change my mind. #videogames #RPG #JRPG #NintendoSwitch

Well, another week another pile of games .. eeeeek.
Here’s the damage:
-Obsessed with #octopath2 , can’t put it down
- Grabbed Trails to Azure, in fear of physical copies selling out .. something that fills me with joy is seeing all the Trails games in their cute switch cases. Still waiting for a double pack port of 1/2 Cold Steel on NSW but not holding my breath ..
- Trekking along in Witch on the Holy Night
- Spring update for #coralisland just dropped, need to check it out
Is it just me or does #octopath2 have too many freaking words? I feel like I could cut some scenes down by like 75%. I've put auto dialogue on a few times and the screen actually dimmed because I'd gone too long without touching the controller. That's too long for the game to play with itself while I watch!
Octopath Traveler II needed a more aggressive editor. One of the things that made 90s RPGs so fun was the pacing brought by smaller scripts. Octopath is very guilty of telling instead of showing its story. Characters are too often repeating themselves. The divide between "playing the game" and "the game plays itself" still bothers me too.
I like to measure RPGs by the time you get a boat. It's the moment an RPG world starts to open up and the player has more choices. For Octopath Traveler II, time-to-boat for me was 19 hours, and I think I might be on the early side of that.

I like that #octopath2 has banter in more natural locations (sort of...) But it could stand to be more relevant. I was working on Cassti's chapter 2 and after a sand lion swallowed up some dude and dramatic music was playing, Agnea brought up that she just invented a new sand dance. Like, is that really the best time?
@tashasounart I was surprised by how positive their assessment was, but maybe it's because Kat wasn't there :cat_upsidedown: #octopath2 is really good from my first 6 hours or so. There's a demo if you want to try the first 3 hours.
The worst part of #octopath2 is when you get to a boss, it plays the character theme, builds up and up into the boss theme and... You just get Decisive Battle I. It's like musical blue balls. Give me Decisive Battle II!
Y’all, Octopath Traveler 2 is so much better than the first. It’s more of the same, yeah, but the first just couldn’t hold my attention. There was so little interaction between party members, the stories didn’t *grab* me, and the writing was really “meh” in general.
The sequel has muuuch better stories, the characters fucking *pop* and they added more interactions between them as well. Also latent abilities spice up combat quite a bit and keeps it interesting for longer. Not nearly as repetitive as the first game.
I love this shit.
After finishing the first chapters for Agnea, Paritio, Hikari, and Castti, I think they all start stronger than any of the chapters in the original Octopath. I liked that Hikari's didn't follow the same "dugeon->boss" structure. Hopefully my chapters have some more variety.

I enjoyed Octopath Traveler and I even remember a few moments from it clearly but the game overall didn't really stick with me. Seeing so many posts about #Octopath2 makes me want to play it but I think I'll wait and see if I care at all once it's not in the hype cycle.
@UncannyKyle while that's true, I'm usually exhausted after the littlest one (finally) goes down that I end up falling asleep on the couch (which actually happened last night with #octopath2 halfway through Hikari's opening)
