November Home Energy stats from #HomeAssistant
Averaged almost 30kwh a day - a lot, but we are going into the first winter with a Heat Pump, and there's an EV to occasionally charge too. Most of that is imported during the cheap period of #OctopusGo at 7.5p/kwh
Almost 70% fossil free fuel is excellent, even in November - the 114kwh generated by the solar is still helping - that would have been £45 of day time power we would have needed to import.
@philbixby Excellent! Wall mounted panels for higher latitudes and in winter when you need all you can get. 🙂 I have batteries which I fill on low rate #OctopusGo which lasts till midnight with no sun, as long as I don't do anything really juicy.
Got my #energy planning spot on today. Filled the #batteries overnight to 60% on #OctopusGo cheap tariff. Ran the house on battery all day which topped up to just under 100% from the #solarPV Still 50% left in battery for a cheap car charge :-)

Here's today's #solarPV #batteries #octopusGO graph. I pulled down 10kWhrs in the early hours at 12p/kwhr. Our #solarpv generated 5kWhrs. We cooked dinner in the oven, ran the washing machine twice, etc. Battery still 40% full.

@TimWardCam I put mine in dec 2020. Got about 5 quotes all very similar pricing. But prices have went up now, old supply/demand. I saved £630 in 2021 first full year now it will be £1200 at least due to electricity price doubling. I have 4.3kwp array and 8.2kwh storage. On #OctopusGo so charge batteries when cheap overnight in the winter and then hardly import at all. Charge Mrs electric car too overnight at 7.5p/kWh. October pic below. Notes includes #electriccar charging.

We're now on our second #RenaultZoe and we love it. Currently waiting for survey for #SolarPV on our flat garage roof (house roof is too awkwardly shaped).
We will overprovision on #BatteryStorage because we are on the #OctopusGo tariff and can top it up cheaply overnight. Also, batteries are only VAT zero rated when bought with solar.

Bit of a follow up on my earlier 'toot' about #energyusage. The #OctopusGo tariff is 12p/kWhr between 0300 and 0430 and 44p otherwise. So I set my #batterystorage and #PHEV car to fill up during that time. I then run the house off batteries for 24 hours, pulling from the grid if need be (max battery output 3kW). If the forecast is sunny, I reduce the overnight fill for the batteries (guesswork) as the #solarPV will top up during the day.

Loving the combination of #solarPV #batterystorage and #OctopusGO tariff. Filled the batteries in the early hours. Put some washing on. Topped the #PHEV car up when the sun came out. Cooked tea and all the usual domestic stuff. Pulled a bit from the grid when the sun went in etc. but our bill is around 70% lower than it would be, even in November, UK. 53degN.

@drstevenhale if it needs charging then generally gets plugged in as soon as get home. We’re on a fix we took out just before the energy market madness so our kWh is way cheaper than anything on offer as an #OctopusGo or #OctopusAgile tariff currently!
