Following hashtags sows a discovery model I had not anticipated.
A new person shows up in your Home feed talking about interesting stuff. Stuff *you* find interesting.
You donโt see the boosted indicator and the hashtag blends into the post by cognitive masking, since you consider it familiar. So, it feels like serendipity.

โ Just realising that Mastodonโs search functionality has given me an acute case of octothorpery.

#Shavian #๐๐ฑ๐๐พ๐ฏ #hashtag #octothorp #octothorpe
The number of octothorps needed on this site is amazing.
#octothorp #hashtag #TheForeverAndTheNow #LydiaKnowsThisStuff
#octothorp #hashtag #theforeverandthenow #lydiaknowsthisstuff
@SpareElbowSkin I'm surprised the #hashtag isn't called an #octothorp over here.
@DrLindseyFitzharris a tip for new players. Searches on Mastodon only work on hashtags. So if you want people to be able to find you, use the #octothorp liberally.
