is anyone else using #armbian on an #odroid N2/N2+ and had a weird upgrade to #kernel 6.1.42 while 6.1.11 is still the latest in the repo? the upgrade didn't really finish and left my machines without network.

@liilliil I've never tried one (and am happy to be corrected), but the software support is reportedly not as good on those boards as the #raspberrypi.

The #zimaboard or #odroid H3 are good low power #x86 SBCs. Or you can just use hardware you have laying around and save the energy cost of making something new!

I just cannot believe how cheap these streaming sticks are now! Two or three years ago I bought an #odroid n2 to play streamed content from my PC and also locally off a HD. Separately had to buy a FLIRC infrared dongle so I could control it with a separate Logitech harmony remote. N2’s don’t have built in wifi so had to get a USB 5G standalone rabbit ear adapter. And a separate HDMI cable. And MicroSD card to hold the device OS. And it doesn’t support Dolby Vision. And all up it cost me around $150.

#Woot are selling Amazon #FireStick 4K models right now for $17. With remote, hdmi cable, power and built in #DolbyVision, #HDR10 and 802.11ax Wi-Fi. SEVENTEEN DOLLARS FOR EVERYTHING. I just got back from a trip where I plugged the FS into the hotel TV and was instantly able to pick up where I left off on a couple of shows and stream all my bookmarked shit, no muss nor fuss. If I had Plex installled I’d be able to stream off my PC at home as well. Purely insane.

I sync some of my folders between several devices (Windows Desktop, Androids, Linux Mint). One of them is synced between 7 devices without a problem.
I set up an #odroid XU4 (dietPI Linux) with a 1TB SSD. It runs 24/7 since more than 2 years. Live cycle costs are very low, it just uses 5 Watt. So i think it is cheaper than a VPS over time.

Since getting unlimited internet I've now completely fallen down the rabbit hole with streaming stuff. Phone plan gives me #Disney+, #Hulu and #ESPN+. Amazon Prime gives me PrimeVideo. And we killed Cox and went for #YouTubeTV for live TV Channels. The FireStick 4K Max we have is easily as fast as the #Odroid N2 for video. Installed KoDI on it and now I can stream my music collection too. Got multiple TVs in the house with multiple fire sticks, a couple of which cost me just $16 each WITH REMOTE. I no longer need to switch TV inputs between the media center and the TiVo, the latter got retired as well. The whole shebang is centralized and now I have more entertainment than I could possibly watch in ten lifetimes. Quality is great too. Bought an OTG cable enabling me to store #FireTV apps on an external USB flash drive so no more 5Gb #Firestick limit.

So depending on what traffic looks like with my #SBC on PoE, I"m hoping the power usage is low enough I can make it permanent for my Pihole's and my #HomeAssistant running on #Odroid .

Left to my own devices, 'd have evevything on a hard line and cables everywhere--and I did indeed live like that tripping over them for five years--but until I get rich enough to build a wired house--that should be a few lives from now--I must accept.

I just received a few “endless potentiometers”, they have 360° free rotation and output two phase quadrature components (see picture 1).

Unfortunately these parts are rare and I only could find some of the Alpha RV112FF series at Mouser’s. So I quickly set up a test using the dual 12-bit ADCs from my #Odroid N2 (picture 2) and did some measurements.

My 16GB Orange Pi 5 finally arrived last week. I didn't find a full set of instructions (and tbh, didn't look very long) for booting it off its M.2 slot, so I documented how on my blog https://unixorn.github.io/post/2023-03-boot-orange-pi-5-from-nvme/

The OPi5 humiliates the #rpi and #odroid machines in my rack for IOPS. Full benchmark in the post, but >17x FIO random write and random reads.
