I have an Oxford English Dictionary subscription because I’m a nerd, but the lack of a mobile-friendly version of their website meant that I rarely used it. I just visited, and now, it’s glorious on mobile! When did they change it? Why didn’t they email their subscribers? #OED

I have a new favorite word:
Turangawaewae: Originally and chiefly in Māori contexts: a place where one belongs or has established right of residence; a foothold, a home base. Also: a sense of identity and independence associated with this.

There’s no place like turangawaewae.

Prolly wouldn’t have worked in the movies…

the oxford english dictionary is possibly the most scholarly work ever assembled. at one time, it could be purchased on cdrom. that product has been discontinued, but it can be found on the internet archive. i was thinking that it would be so nice if someone would reverse engineer the data on that cdrom... and then i found this!
