@aslakr Det er svakheten i det ja. Prøvde opprinnelig å finne fram siden som viser både #opengraph og #oembed, men fant ikke det igjen.
I wonder if #Mastodon is #oEmbed enabled to where, if you put a link to a post on Mastodon on a #WordPress post, it'll auto-embed it...
Does anyone know if posts from Pleroma/Akkoma can be embedded?
This closed issue from three years ago suggests this should be possible, but I can't seem to get this to work. Unless this is not typically enabled on instances?

I'm looking into embedding fediverse posts and I see that out of the major platforms, only Mastodon and Peertube support embedding via iframes.
Some of the platforms should at least support oEmbed, but I can't seem to get this to work.
Does anyone know more about this?

Here's my first #processWire module
https://codeberg.org/artfulrobot/TextformatterTweetEmbed
It swaps out links to tweets with their text content from #oEmbed, removes twitter's shortning/#tracking links
Caching oembed with nginx
> Posting a link on Mastodon can have big impacts on our WordPress websites.... the wp-json REST endpoint for rendering oembed content .. usually isn’t cached.

Actually, let me try with a link to the @davew toot that he tried to test embedding in his blog:
https://mastodon.social/@davew/110169682268298227
since we know for sure that #oEmbed works for that, as his test was successful ;-)
This OTOH is a link to the first toot in this thread:
https://sociale.network/@oblomov/110202953128778844
Does Mastodon use #oEmbed for this, or just shows the OpenGraph/Twitter card metadata for the preview?
I'm going to run a small test here.
This is a link to a Flickr #cat photo for #Caturday. IIRC, Mastodon will leverage its #oEmbed feature to show the photo:
https://flic.kr/p/7kbADr
There is something I'm missing about the whole #Mastodon #quoteToot debacle. So let me see if I get it right:
1. Mastodon toots can be embedded via #oEmbed
2. Mastodon can leverage oEmbed to present content from other platforms/websites
So why isn't it using it for toots again?
This post is going to get quoted so hard, it won't know what is happening to it.
Also I'm checking if I get a notification if somebody oembeds my stuff. Y'all know? That would be kinda nice.
@stop @donmelton But XSS doesn’t apply to the #Apple Messages app as far as I know, and it would be impossible to reliably maintain a fixed list of all but the well-known #Mastodon servers for allowed #oEmbed. I’d be disappointed if Apple touted this but left out servers I like to share from.
@mjgardner @stop @donmelton Investigating more, most #oEmbed consumers use a list of allowed provider URL prefixes. For example, #WordPress defaults to about 3 dozen services including #Amazon #Kindle, #Flickr, and #Twitter: https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/embeds/
Since oEmbed can carry #HTML, the spec advises web consumers to wrap it in an <iframe> hosted from another domain to avoid cross-site scripting attacks: https://oembed.com/#section3
#oembed #wordpress #amazon #kindle #flickr #twitter #html
@stop @donmelton Isn’t this literally the use case for #oEmbed? Or does #Apple have to treat every service as a unique thing to enable?
@edsu ooh! and thanks for highlighting the existence of https://oembed.link/
super handy #oEmbed tool!
Surely I can't be the only one seeing a huge performance impact upon my WordPress blog immediately after sharing a link, here, on Mastodon.
Oembeds need to be cached on the WP blog.
I go into detail,

Are there any #CSS or #WordPress theme devs with a moment to spare?
I'm trying to get these #Mastodon embeds to display without undersizing or oversizing. So far, I have two possible outcomes neither of which fill me with glee.

I have a basic proof of concept working - some instances refuse to connect; #boosts are not supported which means no workaround for instances that refuse.

Do I fundamentally misunderstand oEmbed? Is Mastodon's web-UI omission of oEmbed/OpenGraph previews some kind of CYA for European law or just an intentional opt-in that's reserved for native mobile clients? They have the API, but don't seem to use it officially.
