Giving a presentation about this later this week at the Tuscarawas County Public Library in New Philadelphia, Ohio. Should be a lot of fun.

This drawing is from an 1875 journal written by a man who grew up in Warren County, Ohio. The journal talks about his life growing up in Warren County and the people that he met. The image, drawn on the inside of the back cover, shows the house in Waynesville, Ohio where the author's mother died. @histodons

This large building has dominated the first block of South Broadway in New Philadelphia, Ohio since its construction and, when it was built, was considered state-of-the-art. I thought I would explore its construction and how it became the focal point of an early 20th century Ohio Supreme Court case.

I love it when I see an image of working people making it into the historical record. These men worked at the Bucyrus Casting Company in Crawford County, Ohio. This is from the OGS Archive collection.

My wife found this 1912 diary of an Ohio Northern University student at a local thrift store and, among the entries, is this note from one of his female friends. Thought it was too good not to share. @histodons

Another nice item from the OGS Archive this morning. This is David Tuicher's (later Disher) 1840 naturalization document from Tuscarawas County, Ohio. His folder also included other earlier vital records from his home canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Another nice item from the OGS Archives today. This 1824 map of the Delaware District of Ohio. The person who owned this map used it during his travels throughout the region collecting on debts owed by settlers in the area.

Another great image from the OGS Archives: Ice harvesting in a quarry somewhere in Ohio (likely Huron or Richland County) in the early 1900s.

I always enjoy poking around the OGS archives and library work areas to see what's being processed. This is an image from a collection currently being evaluated. It includes a number of early 20th century images of Plymouth, Ohio.

Every house in a community, regardless of size or expense, can tell us a story about its past inhabitants and their lives. This modest brick home in New Philadelphia, Ohio includes stories of a beloved community member and family tragedies.

This house on North Broadway in New Philadelphia, Ohio has amazing details that give it the classic β€œhaunted house” vibe. No ghost story, but this is the story of the family who built it over 130 years ago.

Big thank you to Kim at the Tuscarawas County Historical Society for an image!

Many of us are familiar with the many struggles faced by the short-lived garrison at Fort Laurens. Rather than focus on that, I thought I would look at the life, and death, of one soldier in particular. He was a Virginian and his name was Private George Osborne.
