Oddly, we don't see many crane flies, aka the mosquito eaters, this year. Ironically, they don't eat mosquitoes, despite the legend.

For people that don't know, the crane fly looks like a large mosquito, but don't 'eat' you.

I live on the #OhioRiver and there are 3 coal-fired power plants that have shut down in the last couple years.

That is good for the #climate

However, it is odd not hearing the many barges going up and down the Ohio River.

The silence of their absence roaring up and down the river is so loud.

They came up and down like clockwork. Each tug had a unique sound, unique horn and lights. They were like time pieces going off.

Losing the barges is like losing an old friend. #RiverLife #Psychology

Deputy arrested for trafficking and dealing drugs to Kenton County, #Kentucky Detention Center inmates.

His drug dealing was discovered during his day off from working at the jail. He was put under constant surveillance and caught in the act upon his return to work. Deputy was fired upon his arrest.

Arrest records shows the drugs included Carfentanyl, a fentanyl derivative. The jail is just miles across the #OhioRiver in the #Cincinnati region. #Crime #LawEnforcement

Barge Carrying 1,400 Tons of Toxic Methanol has become submerged in the Ohio River.

Methanol "is a toxic alcohol that is used industrially as a solvent, pesticide, and alternative fuel source."

Methanol is HIGHLY toxic and completely mixes with water. Municipal water intakes are just miles downstream.
