Healthcare isn't about getting treated when sick. It's about health.

I got a call today from the Ottawa Hospital. I had some minor symptoms months back stemming from my sedentary IT lifestyle and they wanted to book a CT even though the issue is gone.

"Even if the symptoms are gone and it's very unlikely we'd find anything, we just want to make sure there's nothing there we'd want to catch early"

I said yes. That's a public healthcare answer, devoid of economics.

Just as I have no doubt that allowing surgeries in for-profit clinics can help short term, I also have no doubt that the long-term conservative vision is a two-tiered system.

They've said so.

Long term, the problem isn't that there is capacity in private clinics that is being under-utilized. Our sights should be set on doing away with private elements entirely, not becoming more reliant on them.

I'll just say that I have no doubt that allowing more surgeries to take place in for-profit clinics will help alleviate the provincial backlog and that's a good thing.

But given this is Ford, this is likely not just a temporary stop-gap to tide us over until the long-neglected public system can catch up but a continuation of the trend of undermining the public system so more tax dollars can be siphoned off into private pockets.

As already mentioned, social democrats operate within the status quo but continually look for opportunities to improve society by implementing collective solutions as appropriate. By kicking in a bit we can help those in need by a lot. Free of profit motives, public systems tend to be more stable, affordable, fair, and accountable.

Conservatives work the other way around, often without regard to the bit about it being 'appropriate'.

I've been having swelling in my right hand and discomfort.

I've been waiting to renew my OHIP card because the online renewal system is inaccessible to me (I don't have a Photo Card or license). I have to make arrangements to go in person.
