Working again on this at the moment. It isnā€™t finished, I still have the jug to do, and finish the fruit, and some water droplets and add a few leaves, plus the painting of flowers on the jug. Petrified Iā€™m going to slip and ruin it.

Sometimes when painting you have to ā€œkill your darlingsā€ - start over on some things that arenā€™t right. In this instance the background, which unifies the whole painting, doesnā€™t seem to be the right value so I need to sort it. Also the texture on the jug is way off. I have to decide soon: is it painterly and so has brush strokes or is it glazed and smooth?

Little Bird, a baby sparrow, died after falling from her nest. This is to honor her & all feathered babies who, each Spring, lose their chance to spread their wings & soar.

I painted this interpretation of Johannes Vermeerā€™s (1632-1675) ā€˜Woman in Blue Reading a Letterā€™ as a Christmas gift this year for my mother.

I learned a lot about using a limited palette, but almost nothing on light and shadow because Vermeer was so genius I couldnā€™t begin to crack his code.

And yes, I know thereā€™s a Butterfinger candy bar on the table and that they werenā€™t manufactured in the 1600s, but thatā€™s what my mother would keep in her jewelry box.šŸ¤Ŗ
