They taste good, but the mouth feel is a problem. The ones I haven't eaten? I'm never gonna eat.
But before I throw them away...
Today I have the #dehydrator running to make some #okra #chips. The experiment: I'm gonna dehydrate these mushy pickles and make pickle chips. It's a no-cost low-effort last-ditch attempt to avoid both food hoarding behavior but also food waste.

I was wrong about my #okra plants. All these pods grew in a few days after I called the plants "unproductive" on social media.

This is an #okra #flower. The okra is a very impatient plant. If some insect doesn't pollinate this within the next several hours, it will pollinate itself. Either way, this flower will be dead by nightfall.

35 followers · 308 posts · Server mstdn.socialSo I was out this morning, sitting on my patio, trying to get some good #bird photos. A Carolina #Wren flew right up to the patio, maybe 3 yards away from me, landed on one of my #okra plants, dropped a safflower seed from its mouth, and flew away.
I thought this was #odd behavior, so I went over to investigate.
Well, friends, what I learned when I tried to pick up that seed... It wasn't a safflower seed... and it hadn't come out of his mouth.
So that's my day. Hope yours is #better.

It's the best time of the year, right now, for central #Arkansas. It's warm enough for #dragonflies, but not warm enough for #Cicadas.
Dragonflies at my house love to play King of the Stick, where they compete to land on the highest stick in the yard. Usually that's my #cucumber trellis, but right now it's a temporary post, set up for deer netting around my #okra.

The restaurant at Cave In Rock State Park in Illinois was surprisingly good. It's pure southern comfort food. I had fried catfish and fried okra with a roll and strawberry butter.
