Ōkunoshima is an island in the Seto Inland Sea in Hiroshima Prefecture in Japan. In the first half of the 20th century it was a primary location for the production of chemical weapons.
Many of the chemical weapons produced there were used in China against both combatants & civilians. Abandoned munitions have continued to explode and pose a threat to people in China today.
Most of the workers at the plant on Ōkunoshima also suffered harm.
Today Ōkunoshima is "Rabbit Island." A small island full of rabbits with no predators, it is now a vacation destination for families.
