In the original discussion, we began with #Space1999 rather than #StarCops, but even that, in hindsight, turned out more plausible than #MissionImpossible did.

Perfect disguises still take hours and days.

Whereas Space:1999 had little hand-held communicators with built-in tellies, and people continually asking a computer where they are. Both of these are quite familiar in the 21st century. The only bit that's missing is the ecological catastrophe. (-:

#StarCops: Set in 2027. Hand-held computer answers voice requests. Genetic engineering. Video conferencing with table-top devices showing people's heads in windows, and lag.

#MissionImpossible: Set in the 1960s. Face masks, 3-D printed in the updates, so accurate and flexible that they look exactly like the other actor; donnable and doffable in seconds.

Which is actually the more plausible, in hindsight?
