A really good 1970s London Weekend special, about the British Teddy Boy movement and how it was surviving and thriving as late as 1979. Featuring Crazy Cavan, Carl Perkins, old Tailor's shops, and plenty of interviews with the Teddy Boys and Girls, conducted by a young Janet Street Porter

In the original discussion, we began with rather than , but even that, in hindsight, turned out more plausible than did.

Perfect disguises still take hours and days.

Whereas Space:1999 had little hand-held communicators with built-in tellies, and people continually asking a computer where they are. Both of these are quite familiar in the 21st century. The only bit that's missing is the ecological catastrophe. (-:

Here's another thought for @cstross et al. to play with.

: Set in 2027. Hand-held computer answers voice requests. Genetic engineering. Video conferencing with table-top devices showing people's heads in windows, and lag.

: Set in the 1960s. Face masks, 3-D printed in the updates, so accurate and flexible that they look exactly like the other actor; donnable and doffable in seconds.

Which is actually the more plausible, in hindsight?
