Yesterday I accessioned a small collection of #flyers delivered to a house in #Oldham. Many of these flyers are very specific to the #community that lives in the area and they show how the arrival of people from other countries shapes and develops businesses, education and culture. Oldham has a strong #Bangladeshi community and these flyers reflect that.
They're now part of our #LocalStudies #collection.

Anyone on here from #Oldham, UK ...? Might I ask if there are any run down derelict factories and stuff like that about? Heading up later in year and contemplating which of my cameras to take. Thanks in advance.

Well I did a democracy. Living in a super safe Labour seat it was of course pointless but we have some super nasty independents to keep down. Of the 10 candidates 6 are far right. Leaving Hobson's choice of 3 Labour and a LD. I found out 1 of the Labour candidates is anti #pr and a transphobe so the decision was made for me. #ukpol #localelections #oldham

So all this week #TheGuardian have been running stories about how the #CottonTrade in the north west of England benefited from #Slavery.
My grandma worked in the cotton mills in #Oldham and she raised me and my brother from infants off her pension from that job. I'd always thought slavery didn't have anything to do with my family or my town. Its shocking to realise how far reaching it was and that my family benefited from it too 🙁
