Two men examine some of the boats tied up along a dock on the River Lee. In the background is the offices of Suttons Coals which burned down in 1963. I wonder if these men worked in Suttons and were just out for lunch that day?
You can see the dock these men are standing on in the first photo of the bridges of Cork post I published last year. There's another similar one on the other side of Parnell Bridge, too.

Cork in the snow in 1947.
Two photos this time. One of people clearing the snow from the pavement on Academy Street in 1947, the harshest winter in modern times in Ireland.
And in stark contrast, another of people enjoying the snow on Grand Parade in 1947. Looks like they’re in the middle of a snowball fight!

Patrick Street 1981, with the old Woolworths Store (closed in 1984 in RoI and 2009 altogether) and Saxone Shoes going in the mid 1990s, a Tan liveried CIE Double Decker is seen on a 3 to Ballyphehane.
Lots more photos of old Cork busses here:

Robert Day and Son, 103 St. Patrick’s Street
This is where Dorothy Perkins used to be on Patrick's Street, I think?
"Many older people in Cork remember Day’s shop on Patrick Street where, at Christmas time, a child could be transported to Santa’s cave by slide! Day’s fishing and tackle shop in Bowling Green Street, brightly painted in yellow, closed in the late 1990s."

I had no idea that a department store called “Market Parade” existed on St. Patrick’s Street in Cork until today. Here’s Health, Claire’s Accessories and Burger King occupy the ground floor of that building now. That doorway in the photo above goes into the arcade that leads to the English Market.
Were there shops upstairs, or was it only the ground floor where the public had access to?

Cars on North Gate bridge quite some time ago. The buildings in the background are recognisable but the bridge has been updated. Cars nowadays have less room between them!

A couple walks across Daunt Square in 1967. Photo by Richard Mills.
See the cars parked in the background? No sign of McDonalds yet either!
The man in the photo contacted Evening Echo. Johnny Campbell recognised himself in the photo. The lady he was with was named Susan.
Johnny started playing with Rory Gallagher in January 1966, and they ended up in Hamburg in August that year on tour.

The bus station at Parnell Place a long time ago. Very old fashioned looking vehicles but the building itself is still recognisable.

Before Deliveroo there were messenger boys employed by many shops in the city to deliver goods. Here’s one on Capwell Road, October 1936.

Joe Healy shared a wonderful photo of a family festival at the Majorca Ballroom in Crosshaven in 1985. The ballroom closed a few years later.
Fast-forward to September 2005 when I was in Crosshaven and took a few photos of the building. It suffered fire damage in 2004 and was demolished in late 2005, so I was very lucky that it was still standing when I photographed it.
Also, a photo inside the Ballroom

The Cork Examiner Offices on Academy Street. in 1961. Looking towards St. Patrick’s Street.
There's so much to see here:
* Cork Examiner Office.
* People going upstairs to The Green Door restaurant.
* The Travel Agent (still there!)
* The Victoria Hotel on Patrick Street in the background.
* Parked cars, but there's a horse and trap too.

Construction of the Michael Collins Bridge
Joe Healy shared this image of a partly constructed Michael Collins Bridge in late 1983. Trawlers are lined up behind it, and you’ll recognise some of the buildings in the background. That part of the quay has been completely changed in recent years with all the office blocks going up in the area.
I think I drive over this bridge at least once a week.
Boost it for other Cork people!

Busses and bicycles on St. Patrick’s Street, Cork. 1960s.
Waiting for their turn to move.
Were there traffic lights back then? Could it have been a traffic guard controlling traffic?

Republican Prisoners on the Docklands
Republican prisoners captured during the attack on Passage West during the Irish Civil War being marched to Cork Gaol for detention, 1922.
Recognise the buildings of the docklands in the background? This was before the massive R&H Hall building was built.
