The remains of other old railway bridges over the Kelvin can be seen upstream and downstream from this point on the river.

The remains of an old railway bridge over the River Kelvin just east of the Kelvin Aquaduct in Maryhill, Glasgow.
This bridge would have originally carried the Caledonian Railway line coming from Anniesland and heading east to eventually join up with the section of line which ran under the Botanic Gardens and Kelvingrove Park on its way to the city centre.

The rather grand entrance to Cumberland Street Railway Station in Glasgow. Designed by William Melville, this station was opened in 1900. Trains from here went from Port Eglinton to St Enoch Station. It closed in 1966 when passenger services on this line ceased.

In December 1994, the River Kelvin was in full spate and broke through its retaining wall just upstream from here. The water flowed through this tunnel before emerging to engulf the Exhibition Centre Station, flood the car park of the Exhbition Centre itself and finally cascade into the Clyde. In the aftermath of this event, this entrance was sealed up.

Sealed up entrance to the abandoned railway line under Kelvingrove Park in Glasgow. This tunnel led from the old Kelvin Bridge Station to what is now Exhibition Centre in Finnieston. The line was closed in the 1960s.
The next place where this line is visible is from the beer Garden of the Finnieston Bar on Argyle Street.

The monogram of the Caledonian Railway Company on the side of Caledonian Mansions on Great Western Road in Glasgow. This is the company that built and operated the railway line that used to run beneath this building and other parts of the west end of Glasgow.

The remains of the old Crow Road Railway Station under Clarence Drive in the west end of Glasgow. It was open from 1896 until 1960.
From here, trains once ran as far west as Dumbarton (along what is now a cycle path to Loch Lomond) as well as into the middle of Glasgow and up to the old Caledonian Railway Line which ran under the Botanic Gardens.

A regular dog walking & running location for me. The Churnet Valley line went from North Rode to Leek, then Uttoxeter but was closed to passenger traffic in 1960. All freight traffic was stopped by 1988. It crosses between locks 11 & 12 at the Bosley Flight, 12 locks in total, huddled together over a 2km stretch. Hard to believe looking at it now, nature has taken it back.

We are renting The Station in Sandsend and I highly recommend.
It is the old railway station and the conservatory is the old sheltered part of the platform, the platform edge is the patio, and the lawn where the rails once ran.
It must have been so exciting coming on holiday and the sea in all it's glory right there as you stepped off the train.

Took the dog for walk yesterday to one of my favourite places locally.
The remains of Mangotsfield Station which was on the Midland railway between Bristol and Bath.
Amazing place to explore so much history here.
Yesterday I managed to find the subway that linked all the platforms.
I think I might just have to make a short video about it, what do you think?

We had a good walk out with Dad this afternoon. We enjoy exploring lots of places, in and around Edinburgh. Today we took a 4.5km stroll today through the north west of the city, from Craigleith down to Caroline Park in Granton.
Lots of points of interest and things to chat about. Always good to get out and old railway lines are easier than some country paths for someone with impaired vision.
