I’m trying to come up with a list of fiddlers born before 1890 who were recorded (either commercially or informally) before 1950. Can anyone think of a fiddler not on this list?

The first couple of songs I learned to pick, "Over The Waterfall" and ... another one whose name I forget
Don't attempt this in an oldtime session, or you'll be glared at until you just play the chords.
Recorded just now as a warmup, on my phone, muffled by the massive phone case

The North American Traditions group’s Survey of Traditional Music meets an eager public at Clifftop next week. There's really never been a set like this one. The American Anthology of Folk Music sparked a whole revival of folk traditional US folk music, the Alan Lomax releases fueled it, but to understand what traditional musicians were doing in the late 20th and early 21st centuries there's no better resource than these sets. About to release a new album. Any tips or resources for getting it out there? It’s #bluegrass and #oldtime music. I already applied for Spotify playlist consideration via Spotify.

I missed #fedivision but if anybody wants to layer my #helsinki #oldtime #banjo and #fiddle group, that would be neat. https://youtube.com/watch?v=0pcfCEYkZiw

#GenreOfTheWeek Twice a year some of the best #bluegrass, #country, and #OldTime musicians put on a performance at the #Carrboro #ArtsCenter. Here’s a tune from a 2015 show. These folks just feel this music down deep. The guy in the vest is #JimWatson of #RedClayRamblers fame.

Fiddle Tune Friday selection is Greasy Coat, done by The Splinters! Fiddle tunes with words are the best of both worlds.

If I had to mention one artist I heard when I was a child that I really didn't get at the time it would have to be #MarleneDietrich
When you play something like Ich werde Dich lieben, you hear a voice like no other. It's utterly unique and absolutely beautiful.
I don't know why I had to grow up to understand it. It seems so obvious now.

Friends from my local #OldTime music circle had such a great time making this recording the winter before COVID. If you're into Old Time Appalachian. Here you go!
