There’s something comforting about using mastodon as #oldtwitter - as if I could travel back ten years and just have it be the same.

Because I used to do it just for me.

What I'm looking for from Mastodon is to be completely distracted from work at all times, without the constant outrage.

It's weird coming on here and finding everyone needing to learn what used to be the basics of using Twitter, as though they're a new and unfamiliar thing and not just what we all used to do.

Things like

• read the Everyone timeline
• interact with people
• use hashtags even though Twitter doesn't recognise them, because people search for them
• be nice to people and maybe they'll be nice back
• avoid the official app

etc. etc. etc.

This does not mean a need to allow all forms of expression, including obscenity and slurs.

But if someone wants to post race-crime statistics or other criticism of diversity, that would be 100% legit.

That's the difference from #OldTwitter.
