In #Ollantaytambo on #NewYearsDay for #WataKallariy or start of the year, the game of #Sinkuy has been played for centuries. It’s sort of like bowling, on an uneven brick street, with six small balls to hit six narrow poles spaced widely. It raises money for the rural communities because if you’re invited to play, you leave a contribution as you do.

Siamo in #Peru nel cuore della #ValleSacra circa bloccati dalle manifestazioni pro #Castillo e contro #Boluarte , roba che noi ci sogniamo. È TUTTO bloccato, oggi siamo andati a piedi da #Ollantaytambo a #Urubamba perché non circola NULLA e ci sono blocchi stradali ovunque, e a qualsiasi ora c'è un #corteo in giro, ristoranti e negozi chiusi tutto il giorno, qualcosa si anima con prudenza dalle 18. Stanotte dovremmo andare in taxi a #Pisac , dovrebbe prelevarci alle 3.30, impossible altrimenti.

Good morning from #Ollantaytambo, #Cusco, #Peru where birds are singing and it’s still not raining and it should be turning green by now but it isn’t. Right here crops can still be watered with the old Inca infrastructure, although rivers and canals are almost dry. I have never seen it this dry this late in the year. Many crops have already been lost to frost at higher altitudes too, although at least the frost has extinguished some grass fires.
