I'm at the #Olmsted-Beil House tonight for an event, so I might be late, but I want to share this little seedling with #WildflowerHourNYC. It was discovered at the Olmsted-Beil House last Spring and, along with its siblings, is being raised at the Greenbelt Native Plant Center. Many didn't survive, but about half a dozen remain.

These seedlings are the children of a tree planted by Frederick Law Olmsted when he lived on Staten Island between 1848 and 1855.

#2 – Since the 1960s, the hulking Bowker Overpass has all but obliterated Boston's Charlesgate Park, a Frederick Law #Olmsted-designed gateway between the Charles River and the Fenway. #MassDOT has shown a willingness to remove expensive and obsolete highway viaducts elsewhere, but it's not taking that approach here:

The clean-up I participated in today was at the Olmsted-Beil House in the Eltingiville neighborhood of Staten Island.

In two weeks they will be hosting FLO Fest in honor of Frederic Law Olmsted's 200th birthday. If you're in the NYC area you can RSVP to attend IRL on April 24.

I am off to the last clean-up of the season at Olmsted-Beil House. No more until Spring, but when I saw it recently it was looking good.

Also have a plan in the works to make the adjacent house they've been using for events into a more welcoming visitor center. It's not open except when there are events, but it would be nice to have some small items on display and to show off some t-shirts, books and other promotional swag.
