What showing up in multiple countries means is that it has some level of population ignition already and has already achieved international circulation prior to surveillance detection.

Which is not surprising because we have ramped down the surveillance by 90% and officially gone back to sleep. It's similar to what happened in wave 1.

The question now is will it
1. fizzle out
2. Drive a new wave that is mitigated due to low immunity escape
3. Drive a #Delta or #Omicron like new #variant explosion due to increased transmission and/or high immunity escape

The lab tests results are suggestive but not predictive.

I for one won't be betting they are right.

About the experiment evaluating #BA286 infectivity, the cell line HEK293T-hACE2 has no TMPRSS2 receptor.
If #Omicron has an altered usage of TMPRSS2, when compared with #delta, that may not be the case of #Pirola
Thus this result is incomplete and may not reflect the full potential of this #SARSCoV2 variant.

No, it isn't that the mask isn't functioning! It's that even if it's working as designed, it's only guaranteed to protect you from an unmasked infected person for a short period of time: less than an hour at this point, probably.
