I’m reading a lot of books by cyclists about cycling at the moment. None of them are really about cycling but more of an exploration of the ‘why’ and “how” we do things and what this might reveal
to us about ourselves.
Photographers are the same, I think. All landscapes are in some way “constructed” by the experiences of the viewer, none are truly neutral.

Holloway. Dartmoor.
A trudge up and over to Red Lake. Neither the walk, nor the lake, have much to recommend them. An indifferent landscape. But, each year, we wander over, sit by the lakeside and feed on the solitude.

This image was taken facing east. The full moon is behind the camera and has minimal impact. This is NOT the sun about to rise - the sun is till about 10 degrees below the horizon and will not rise for another 68 minutes.

Nautical Twilight - historically the brief moments in time when sailors could distinguish the sea from the horizon but not much more.
The Taw Valley at 05:23am with a full moon. Nautical twilight was between 05:22 until 06:03 when Civil Twilight began.

Enough of the pretty pictures of Dartmoor. Let's return to business.
Granite and Water define Dartmoor. These images detail those moments when the two meet. One of the images is 175 years in the making, the other lasted less than 1/2000th of a second. But, to my eyes, they ate very very similar; the meeting of these two create thousands of worlds and possibilities.
