One of my occasional telly things: #OnceUponATimeInNorthernIreland on th’Iplayer: Watched episode 1. Should be on the National Curriculum. The ignorance in this country about our history is depressing. I worked with someone once who thought IRA was a suitable name for a risk process. Give it a watch.

Anybody else watching the absolutely incredible Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland? I was born in 1964 and grew up aware of the ‘troubles’. This is a clearing of the mist and a laying bare, in a balanced way, of the views of the whole community. Touching, caring, exposing. Extraordinary. #onceuponatimeinnorthernireland

#OnceUponATimeInNorthernIreland - just started watching. I do remember the later parts of the conflict.
But the really interesting thing is how easily a relatively peacful situation can turn very violent. For no real driver other than carefully stoked division.
We have had civil war in the UK in my lifetime. I fear we may have it again.
