Disappointed to see the blue check system on Spoutible. It makes sense when people are actually being impersonated, but it has long since started functioning like an online caste system. Witness folks faking checkmarks here on Mastodon, whose verification system doesn't display a checkmark.

Some random thoughts on "favoriting" things on mastodon. . . It's a nice little way of saying "I hear/see you" . . . it feels weird to "favorite" a bad piece of news/reporting (but I still do it sometimes) . . . random strangers "favoriting" a post sometimes feels hollow and distant, especially when there's no other interaction. . . like someone waving at you across a crowded room . . . we're they waving at me or the person standing next to me? Do I know them?

Something about Mastodon seems to encourage participation, both responding to posts and making posts. Maybe it's controlling one's feed by selecting those to follow instead of having them assigned to you by algorithms not exactly tailored to what you want.

That is, I *chose* to follow you, so perhaps I have a proprietary interest in your posts. :)
