With the current economic situation, we need more cloud exit consultants instead of cloud consultants. AWS/Azure/GCP is way too expensive and useless for most projects.

At work, we are strictly #onprem, with an handful of VMs used for some projects. Some months ago, we had to retire a very old #vmware installation and I decided to not repeat the error of embracing a fully proprietary solution. We have now all VMs running on #libvirt as a provider for #vagrant on a #debian box.
A vagrantfile, a few migration scripts and the whole things are now running smoothly.
I wonder why one should run #vmware, #xcpng or #proxmox and friends for an handful of VMs.

@jredmond @rtyler correct, there are multiple ways (especially in enterprise), but most common would also just be something like DigitalOcean, Hetzner, etc.

Rented can make sense if you do not want to worry about HW replacements or upgrades - even #onprem or in #colocation

My #mastodon and mostly because of my video uploads, eating up resources. Hosting on #cloud might hurt the wallet more but that remote IP is needed.

#Onprem hosting would be sucking up electricity along with internet costs. Waiting for end of month to make a resource assessment and plan.

I gotta say, it's interesting how they planned the migration. Kudos to that bros if you had a shit-ton of stateful apps and really high-loads of data to move, that's what I call a real challenge. Moving bunch of over-provisioned stateless apps from cloud to on-prem is just a piece of cake to be honest.
