Best Mark Stewart quote from recent obituaries: "Arguments are good". I definitely subscribe to this world view. I saw the Pop Group in 1978, supporting Patti Smith at the Manchester Apollo, the infamous gig when anyone who was someone was there. I was there. I got a shortlived boyfriend to pay the train tickets and I bunked in free by waiting backstage until the group arrived and then literally begged Patti Smith to let me in. She arranged it.
Ive still got the gig poster, but my poster doesnt have any pictures of Ms Smith on it, its just text (similar to this image), peeled off a wall in the pouring rain after the gig. RIP Mark S, their set was very impressive if you were 18 and fresh out of the blocks.
