Helping an employee setup an account for onboarding and the experience was awful. Present the stupid QR code and and say download the Authenticator app, open it and scan it and complete. I had to second guess.

@da_667 A related annoyance I was reminded of today is that you can't complete the with a "work or school" account (at least not on Windows Home editions). So say you're a small business that uses and you buy off-the-shelf laptops for your staff — they all need a *personal* to set up the device first. And here we are trying to encourage people not to mix their home and work stuff.

: if you want to set up a new desktop pc with a local account & never know a microsoft account, you *MUST* prevent it from connecting to a network before finishes.

if you make the mistake of connecting on wifi first, a microsoft account is your only choice now. the *ONLY* thing you can do then is:

1. force-off the pc,
2. get out of wifi range or turn off your router,
3. turn on the pc,
4. don't go back or turn the router on again until the desktop appears.
