Bei unserem Opel Meriva war ja ein Rücklicht vom Hagel zerschlagen worden. Unsere Autowerkstatt rief gerade an: Opel bietet Ersatzteile angeblich nur noch 10 Jahre nach Modelleinstellung an. Unser Meriva ist jetzt 13 Jahre alt. Wegen des Hagels hier gibt es nirgendwo zumindest hier noch Ersatzteile.

TÜV ist nächsten Monat fällig. Durch den TÜV ohne Rücklicht? Wird schwierig. Am Ende können wir die Karre wegschmeißen, weil ich kein Rücklicht mehr kriege?

#Opel hat wohl früher mal ein passendes #Werkzeug mitgeliefert.

Mit einer #Spitzzange hat in meinem Fall nicht funktioniert.

Aber im Handbuch stand tatsächlich die Lösung:

"Mit dem #Schraubendreher aus dem #Reparaturset und einem Tuch um Kratzer zu vermeiden vorsichtig raushebeln." 🤣

Car running again. New timing belt kit and also new aux. belt with tensioner and idler.

That's the big 150'000 km / 10 year service done. Two of the four bearings were showing signs of wear, one was going quite hard already, definitely shouldn't leave it longer than the recommended interval.

Given the amount of work, I probably saved about half a grand or so by doing it myself (still had to buy the parts). And got to know the car better :)

Last big service item on our #Astra J: Timing belt replacement. This one is a job and a half on this car. Gotta remove air filter housing, wheel, arch liner, engine mount, aux. belt, bunch of pulleys, some covers, support engine from underneath...

Pulleys were a pig to get off, the bolt on the aux belt tensioner a real motherfucker. I got it in the end, but it took hours. It didn't come out intact, but out it came.

Hopefully part two tomorrow goes better.

Changed the (manual, M32) transmission fluid on the #Astra today. #Opel claims it's a "lifetime of the car" filling, but most mechanics dispute this claim.

I'd say they're right to. This is after 11 years and 150'000 km and it doesn't look so good anymore.

Fixed some previous mechanic's crimes with the engine floor cover (it must've dragged on the road before and a corner was gone), cleaned up a bit and applied a wax coating while I was under there.

Can someone explain how it makes sense that an #Opel #eVivaro / #Citroen #eJumpy Crew Cab #EV van (3 second rate seats in the rear) is more expensive, even with fewer features, than the equivalent #Zafira minibus / people carrier with lots of bells and whistles?

Not sure if that’s the case elsewhere, but certainly it is in Finland. It feels like the van versions are 10K more expensive than they should be.

#Car shifting lever was having difficulty returning to center when warmed up (not a gearbox problem, luckily), so after much research I did this procedure:

Slightly scary removing the ECU, but all went well. Lubricated the cables, joints, lever and return spring and fixed a loose hydraulic hose while in there.

Tomorrow we'll drive to town and find out if it's sorted now.
