Every day I see a plugin or app wrapped around #chatgpt and I'm wondering why anyone would want to build their app or dev workflow around a proprietary, closed source llm? When will they jack up the price? What's going on in the code? Biases? Nefarious data collection? Looking at open source alternatives like #openassistant

The extraction of clean training data without the toxicity was very likely done by lots of low paid humans in the global gig economy. So there's still an ethical debate to be had there.

But once given cleaned up human generated training examples, the #LLM does provide a filtered detoxified simulation of a Stackoverflow-like back-and-forth discussion of various source code idioms.

This is why I'm hopeful that #OpenAssistant might one day be an ethical alternative to #ChatGPT

In the same way that #OpenAssistant is a more ethically trained #LargeLanguageModel using human sourced text contributed by consenting volunteers (https://open-assistant.io/), is there a similar effort where visual artists can donate their own digital images for which they've given their consent to be used to in the training of an open source generative-AI tool that will be free to use by the artist community with a fairly liberal licence?

Ich finde das #opensource #llm #sprachmodel https://open-assistant.io/ ja sehr spannend. Hies es nicht man könne den Vorsprung von #openai nicht aufholen, weil Milliarden in das Projekt geflossen sind? Noch ist es nicht konkurrenzfähig, aber für den Entwicklungsstand ist #openassistant schon sehr beeindruckend.

Hugging Face ont sorti leur assistant conversationnel à la chatGPT mais basé sur le modèle de langage ouvert d'OpenAssistant.

#HuggingChat est utilisable sans inscription mais il se peut qu'il soit surchargé en ce moment ^^ et il a tendance à s'écouter parler et dire nimp ...

Testing #OpenAssistant with a geography query I saw @skdh try with #ChatGPT. Got a similar failure.
Then I tried in futile to convince it to change its answer. Notice how it pretends to agree with me but imply that my answer said the opposite of what I said. No wonder the term "gaslighting" is being used to describe these type of LLM failure

(1) #OpenAssistant:in opetusmateriaali vaikuttaa kokeilujeni perusteella keskittyvän ikävä kyllä fatakysymyksiin vastaamiseen. Sitäkin siis opetetaan tuottamaan asiantuntevalta vaikuttavaa tekstiä (ilman todellista ymmärrystä tai edes nippelitietoa), mikä on kaupallisten bottien viheliäisin ominaisuus. Tämä oli minulle melkoinen pettymys.

Silti uskon luonnollisen kielen hyvin hallitsevalle tekoälylle löytyvän jotain aivan pätevääkin käyttöä, varsinkin jatkokehitettynä. Ja hupia ainakin.
