Unfortunately the Clarivate JIF is a negotiated number so we have little idea what really goes into it. Thanks to #OpenCitations, which Elsevier recently joined, patterns can be analysed in the open since 2021.

Self-citation patterns depend on many factors. The size of the journal's archive relative to the field matters. Studies I found so far like https://zenodo.org/record/7708568 found no anomalies.

@fionabradley Thanks! I've been following #SCOSS from the beginning. Does it now recommend specific governance structures? I can't see any.

As I see it, the awardees are either university-owned (#arXiv #Redalyc #OpenCitations) or FLOSS projects with limited lock-in potential (#DOAJ #SHERPA #PKP #DSpace). #OAPEN and #DOAB are the exception, relatively new orgs under Belgian law.

The SCOSS method is interesting because money flows directly from universities to the targets.
