Another new "open" textbook that is only available as a #PDF file.

Pretty sure CC-BY-NC-4.0 frowns on that.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that more and more textbooks are being made available under CC-style licenses. "Available" by itself, however, is not truly open.

Imagine if git[hub|lab] sites only had binary blobs, and you had to email #FLOSS maintainers individually to get access to source code.

I look forward to also reading, "Libraries recently awarded alternative [software] grants to six faculty members to implement open [source software] (#OSS) in their classes this spring."

The same benefits available with OER are also available with #OpenSource software: "cost savings," "positively impact student success," "greater flexibility in course design and instruction."

gist: problem is the profs, not the resources

So true! One thing that #ChatGPT (-like services) will do is make creating new content a "copy and edit" job. #OER already enables that!

I don't understand why people would want to create 100+ pages from scratch rather than edit 100+ pages to fit what they need. For me at least, editing is much easier and faster.

As you say, just another case of #NotInventedHere mentality.

I especially appreciate that you include non-traditional (for lack of a better description) groups among those who benefit from accessibility. For example, language learners and older people can benefit from transcripts and captions.
