I'm surprised that there's very little open for common office . I know the printers (even among brands and lines of products) are heterogeneous. But there's has got to be some who's tried writing open firmware for , , and Brother printers.

@ratfactor I'm sad never caught on in the Linux space. It was a lot of fun to mess with on machines. Certainly much more fun than grub/u-boot/libreboot/etc.

@tebicat not sure if i got it right what sort of encapsulation are you talking about

but if i got it right then have them have a look at 's device model. it's not unlike any other object oriented system, where you got classes of objects with namespaced methods, and instances of them that encapsulate private data

PC may be legacy and may be the new hotness, but will always be ok in my book.

@tebicat CForth and OpenFirmware!

The [1] (used to be called "forthmacs"?) is a very good one. It's 100% native (no C there), has fancy things like indentation and syntax highlighting and shit and the
Forth lessons [2] work with it.

Now that it's not used as a firmware in new platforms it is falling a bit behind. You need 32-bit toolchain to build the Linux loader, but the kernel has no C in it.

CForth [3] is done by the same person. It should be similar, but takes a shortcut at platform support by just using C libraries. Which is practical, but not beautiful.

Due to lack of other optical drives I needed to dig up the old to burn the custom CD.

For some reason didn't like the monitor or the resolution on the monitor so can't get the to boot from a usb stick.

Nobody is here forever. Yet some people still waste the very precious and limited time on things like this:
