Solved. Using…

mplayer -fps 8 -demuxer lavf <url>

...it works perfectly. The stream sends 10 fps but the lower rate on the OpenFrame prevents buffer panics and drops CPU utilisation to 15%. That’s plenty for a basic CCTV camera feed where I’m more interested in latency than frames.

@cliffwade I swallowed the DIY #openframe #fanless Kool-Aid. #computersetup held up well all summer, and should make a good heater over the winter 😉
