#OpenMandriva developers today formally announced the release of their rolling-release OpenMandriva #ROME 23.08 #Linux OS installation images. Making OpenMandriva ROME 23.08 more exciting is that they are now offering separate install media as well that features the #KDE Plasma 6 desktop environment in its current experimental state but is being offered by OpenMandriva as a "technical preview" around the future direction of the desktop.

@nekothegamer I’m running #openmandriva #rome in a vm and it’s pretty good...don’t know if it’s a proper rolling distro to be honest (like arch or tumbleweed). In a couple of days since my install I’ve seen no updates...

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand ... nope. Still Favourites is NFG [as also remains the "essential" Dolphin plugin `RootActions ServiceMenu`].

Given they somehow cannot get such Plasma basics right, & we Plasma-fans have so many good distro alternatives, i now see absolutely zero use-case for #OpenMandriva in my life.

This VM is now nuked. Byeeeeeeeeee. It wasn't fun.

My OpenMandriva_Rome_Plasma VM atm has Plasma 5.27.2 & Frameworks 5.103, but i'm running the updates on it now which'll take it to latest versions, viz; 5.27.3 & 5.104. Atm, & with all prior versions since i created this VM on 17/1/23, OM does simply stupid things that "mainstream" Plasma distros ironed out aeons ago. One of these exasperating papercuts is the App Menu refuses to let me add or remove apps from Favourites 😱

Will it come good after i reboot from this update?

just looked about the new #openmandriva rolling version 23.03 and now it checks all the stuff that i wanted a distro to have when i was switching from KDE neon: a vanilla #gnome experience with the calamares installer!!!!!!!!!

I'll try to emulate it in a vm first to see how it's like, but if it is worth it i think I'll distro hop there indefinitely!
