Hardware-accelerated OpenMSX would not run on Wayland because GLEW expects GLX instead of EGL. So I wrote a tiny temporary fix until GLEW is fixed upstream and the major distros catch up. github.com/openMSX/openMSX/pul

Second week of openMSX and debugger coding is ending. Fixes so far:
- Mac OS debugger packages are now automatically built
- tile viewer layout improved on Mac OS
- VDP latch statuses exposed to TCL and debugger
- Bitmap viewer can display pages > 128k
- when hovering tile with the mouse, pattern widget shows wrong tile
- palette widget works in tile viewer
- loading OMDS session file in the symbol manager possible
- "use current VDP settings" works properly

Continuing the code clean-ups and fixes. The new pull request will make the Debugger a first class citizen on the Mac OS platform. It's called "nightly builds" for lack of a better name. 😉

Used my free time this weekend to write OpenMSX (my first collab) & debugger code. Nothing major, just detecting invalid V9990 register access. Lots of small fixes for the debugger. Maybe we should start thinking about a proper debugger release?

I still have to check that the Hi-Tech C compiler runs well in my , but I expect no issues given that it did fine inside . But I will get to know how slow this is for real, and how much the turbo mode in the Panasonic FS-A1WSX helps the compiler do its number crunching. But that's for another day.

Not the real thing, I know... but at least you can figure out how the game would perform at 28MHz 🚅

@kelbot
oh, I rarely finish shmups either, and when I do it's usually with heavy use of reverse replay to undo mistakes, and replay savestates to continue where I left off when I need to take a break. Fortunately supports both, and it's how I've recorded most of my gameplay videos. ;)

If one of your kids, or your SO, would like to try a co-op , I can highly recommend the co-op mode of for the . :)

, a entry for the 2020 edition of the MSXdev compo, was quite good, and I enjoyed playing through it on stream. :)
I suck at it though, but thanks to emulator's reverse functionality, I could finish the game by undoing my mistakes.

When I have some time I should export the gameplay video. :)

My current WeeChat setup

Since it's come up in conversation a couple of times in the past week (waves at @snowdusk__ and @yarmo), here's a of my current setup (though with different buffers selected than my usual arrangement).

"What am I looking at on the screenshot?"

A buffer list ¹ on the left. Buffers represent the channels, private message streams and status timelines from the various chat media you are connected to.
Side the buffer list are a variety of horizontally and vertically panes, which @weechat called 'windows', each window showing the contents of one
² of the buffers.

"What buffers are visible in these window panes?"

From top left to bottom right these are:

"What's making it work?"

All running in a terminal multiplexer session, running under on , in the client.

(Repost to fix an at-mention...)

Footnotes

¹ though I still use buffers.pl script rather than the built-in buflist plugin because I'm too lazy to migrate my settings to make it look and act in the way I've gotten used to.
² or more, as buffers can be merged, displaying the contents of each of the merged buffers chronologically in the same window pane.

@flydelion such as are a good way to get started enjoying the library of software available, and developing , especially with the use of available debuggers.
But as @bitsofbas can probably attest to, testing on real hardware periodically, and especially before release, is still important as not everything is 100% accurately emulated yet.
Fortunately there are plenty of active MSXers online still, and a wide variety of flashcarts available to test ROMS.
