For the #OpportunityOpenSource in Mandi in India I have published the schedules today:
https://events.canonical.com/event/35/timetable/?layout=room#all.detailed
We have #OpenPrinting (with Michael Sweet, author of CUPS) and #Zephyr (with Jonas Remmert and Benjamin Cabé from Zephyr) tracks, immutable distros blendOs (Rudra Saraswat) and #Ubuntu Core Desktop (me), workshops for Snap (me) and Zephyr (Jonas Remmert), GSoC panel, work-at- #Canonical panel, ...

OMG! Ubuntu writes about my decision to withdraw from basing the printing in #Ubuntu 23.10 on the CUPS Snap:

There is a great python project named 'system-config-printer' which is part of the OpenPrinting. They are looking for new developers and co-maintainer. As far as I can see, the project can use all sorts of help, from minor UI design to some python debugging and also migrating to GTK4. If you think you can give them a hand and invest some time into this project, please don't hesitate.

Sorry, I was too quick with the switchover of #Ubuntu 23.10 to the #Snap of #CUPS. We have decided to revert to the #Debian packages of the printing stack:
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/cups-snap-call-for-testing/21266/59?u=till-kamppeter
With the CUPS Snap as immutable printing stack I will now concentrate on #UbuntuCoreDesktop and when it is nicely working there, reconsider it on classic Ubuntu ...
But do not stop testing the CUPS Snap and the #PrinterApplications. Stay tuned for further calls for testing in the #OpenPrinting News!

@linuxflower @killyourfm @thunderbird And, Heather, also thanks a lot for everything supporting #OpenPrinting, your name is the most mentioned in all the OpenPrinting News posts: https://openprinting.github.io/news/
@killyourfm @thunderbird @linuxflower And the greatest was our #OpenPrinting Indaba! Heather, when you invited me and then I invited Michael Sweet, the author of CUPS (Jason, and CUPS also needed marketing to get what it is, and this I was doing for 20+ years ...) and then you asked me for explaining the printing stack to you, a nice ~30 hour 1:1 and you as physicist writing up all on the whiteboard ... and then made the drawings ...
And this came out:

At #OpenPrinting we release the fifth beta of the Common Print Dialog Backends 2,x (#CPDB), Manin fix is to make frontends and backends communicate D-Bus-only and not browse any auxiliary files, for sanboxed packaging, like #Snap, #OCI containers, #podman, ... to work.

Good news for Snappers! And also free software application projects! What to have your #Snap keeping up with every new upstream version? Then you need Snap automation!
@linuxflower has written a nice #Ubuntu blog about this: https://ubuntu.com/blog/improving-snap-maintenance-with-automation
This is the way how the Snaps maintained by #Canonical an #Ubuntu are handled.
And by the way, and as I am snapping for #OpenPrinting I will adopt these techniques, too.

@jorge @evasb @ramcq @kenvandine@mastodon.social @kenvandine great meeting you arranged with Jorge!!! Made up an amazing thread, and I am currently deep into the #OpenPrinting Snaps, especially the #CUPS #Snap (most are switched to #core22 now) so that a distro where everything just works has printing just work, too! @seb128 has also already given me the link to the images for testing. I hope I will be able to demo Ubuntu Core Desktop in India on my Conference I am organizing there in September ...

@BrodieOnLinux @popey Also still near one hour to go, but up to where I watched it I loved it! Learned a lot about how Snap was born and how Popey was a Snap advocate this time. Thanks Popey !!! (and also thanks Brodie for inviting Popey) I am currently updating all the #OpenPrinting Snaps to core22 and they get tested for the all-Snap #UbuntuSummit Desktop ... Computers should just work. Plug'n'Print, not Plug'n'Play (plug the hardware and play for hours with the drivers).
@ubuntusecurity @ubuntu thanks for spreading the (#OpenPrinting) News about my GitHub security bug report handling tutorial!! If you want to listen to this part right away go to 19:33 min up to the end. And if you want to learn getting and handling security issues in your free software project the right way, go to https://openprinting.github.io/OpenPrinting-News-May-2023/#handling-reported-security-bugs-with-github
::: Ubuntu takes CUPS printing stack to a single handy Snap :ubuntu:
This concerns specifically the non-IPP-driverless printers.
"Snapping" apps like this are apparently good for LTS releases for continuity & stability - Snap packaging has lately matured in a rapid manner.

@ubuntusecurity @ubuntu @LinuxSecSummit I am @till from #OpenPrinting, maintainer of #cups-filters Mentioned security fix is our debut of receiving a private vulnerability bug at #GitHub after I have found out how to activate support for these. I learned from the #Canonical Security Team how to process the bug, they learned from me how to activate #security bug reports in GitHub! And GitHub fixed a bug on this!
