There is a great python project named 'system-config-printer' which is part of the OpenPrinting. They are looking for new developers and co-maintainer. As far as I can see, the project can use all sorts of help, from minor UI design to some python debugging and also migrating to GTK4. If you think you can give them a hand and invest some time into this project, please don't hesitate.

Sorry, I was too quick with the switchover of #Ubuntu 23.10 to the #Snap of #CUPS. We have decided to revert to the #Debian packages of the printing stack:

With the CUPS Snap as immutable printing stack I will now concentrate on #UbuntuCoreDesktop and when it is nicely working there, reconsider it on classic Ubuntu ...

Heather, when you invited me and then I invited Michael Sweet, the author of CUPS (Jason, and CUPS also needed marketing to get what it is, and this I was doing for 20+ years ...) and then you asked me for explaining the printing stack to you, a nice ~30 hour 1:1 and you as physicist writing up all on the whiteboard ... and then made the drawings ...

Made up an amazing thread, and I am currently deep into the #OpenPrinting Snaps, especially the #CUPS #Snap (most are switched to #core22 now) so that a distro where everything just works has printing just work, too! @seb128 has also already given me the link to the images for testing. I hope I will be able to demo Ubuntu Core Desktop in India on my Conference I am organizing there in September ...

@BrodieOnLinux @popey Also still near one hour to go, but up to where I watched it I loved it! Learned a lot about how Snap was born and how Popey was a Snap advocate this time. Thanks Popey !!! (and also thanks Brodie for inviting Popey) I am currently updating all the #OpenPrinting Snaps to core22 and they get tested for the all-Snap #UbuntuSummit Desktop ... Computers should just work. Plug'n'Print, not Plug'n'Play (plug the hardware and play for hours with the drivers).
