The whole kerfuffle with Elon and Twitter make me even more aware of the importance of #OpenSource and #OpenProtocols. The open alternatives (or even clones) should be build even if the general public ignores it. But when the axe drops[1], it is very important that the alternatives are there and are reasonably mature. Otherwise the users are nothing but hostages to the axe-holder.

[1] The cynic in me wants to add: "inevitably".

By building on top of existing #OpenProtocols like #ActivityPub, we nurture the broader commons of a #Decentralized web.

When there are not existing Open Protocols, we weave our own with the expectation they will be insufficient and will revise as we learn and grow.

One day, there will be thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of #TechCoops. Some will run Convene, others will run a different #WebOS, multi-user/multi-device operating systems for digital #socioeconomics.
