Had to setup a new Linux VM to test some software yesterday. I decided to go with #Debian bookworm as it was listed as a supported platform. Install was smooth but configuration and admin turned out to be a real pain. I forgot how much I absolutely hate #systemd. Booting and managing services on a unix system should not be so complicated. I'm crawling back into my #gentoo + #openrc cave to hide away from the mess that "modern" Linux has become.

4) также о #OpenRC 🤔 пичему-то при загрузке упоминается #systemd - я его не выбирал
5) остальные ошибки
seedrng - Unable to create seed directory: Read-only file system
/etc/init.d/bootmisc: line 100: /var/og/wtmp: R-O FS
Error: bootmisc failed to start🤔
Error: systemd-tmpfiles-setup failed to start👀
For anyone using #Devuan or at least a distro with #OpenRC: how do you start the udisks2 service?
I did `rc-service --list` but there wasn't anything related to it in it, and I can't find openrc scripts or similar in apt's cache. How can I start the service so I can start mounting stuff as a regular user?

Did you know you can import fully assembled 3mf files into Bambu Studio to simplify your slicing and printing process? Here's @DanielNoree's #OpenRC project as an example.

The excitement is real. Been doing this CPU WorkUnit for like 3 days

Happy Friday~
Yep this week I solved the startup issue of #dnscrypt-proxy (maybe again) in #pmos / #alpinelinux (they are using #openrc).
The startup failed because of the file/dir ownership not match. Dnscrypt-proxy needs to start as root then drop to user by itself and it needs to modify its dir in /var/cache, so...
The solution is to set user as root but group as dnscrypt, in its init script.
But I'm afraid I don't have to report upstream, so... anyone could #help?

@atarifrosch @Haydar For example #AlpineLinux doesn't use #SystemD either - They use #OpenRC - but at least they commited themselves to that instead of halfassing several competing options...

Does anyone know of a long form reason why people opt against things like #systemd and go for #openRC and the like? I don't know too much about it, but it's not a small amount of groups that are in this (and I end up using s6 for self-hosting or my homelab). (https://jacky.wtf/2023/3/QOk2)
Went down the rabbit hole with #gentoo .
Mainly cuz I’m interested in #bcachefs . Also, I had never installed gentoo before. Before you ask, I have installed #archlinux before. I’m hoping to replicate some things on gentoo that I had on #nixos , namely root system snapshots. Of course, since gentoo is mainly oriented toward #openrc , I could also use #guix packages for non-root packages so I don’t have to install #flatpak. Lots to consider!

My first TPU print in a long time. I am surprised at how good the result looks. 🙂

ليس تماما، Gentoo ليس Monolith
Systemd is a (hiden) monolith (except some little bricks)..
Years ago (by 2015 or so) I had many production crashs because of Systemd..
I know tthat you know these links, but I am sharing them for others to read:

@Nitrux_NX AND you’re on Mastodon as well! Awesome!
Now that I have more #Linux experience under my belt, I find the concept of fully containerized apps intriguing, and I’m interested to see how the NX desktop tames #KDE, which I find to be overly busy and fussy.
Maybe a video from @thelinuxEXP can explain if #Systemd vs #OpenRC should be a concern for ordinary users like me. 😉
Ceterum censeo systemd esse delendam.
No, I still don't like anything about #systemd. Not the binary logs, not the grabbing of pid 1, not the bloat, and definitely not breaking #posix.
Sad truth: I'd love to stick to #gentoo and #OpenRC, but I lack the time to properly care for my OS. So I'm stuck with systemd. :(
