OMFG this is a next level professional finish by #BT #Openreach after installing fibre.
I mean there's no way my 5yr old could have done better with some manky bread
The time has come. The national #openreach #WLR3 stop sell is in place.
(Except in a few edge cases around the SOTAP pilot, WLR3 (analogue voice lines and ISDN 2e/30e) are no longer available for new supply from today. MPF lines still available for now.)
Just under 24 hours to go until #openreach #wlr3 (analogue voice lines) are no longer available for new supply. Will be the beginning of the end of an era, in just over 2 years time then WLR3 will be gone for good on all lines.
Not everyday we test a line and get:
"DANGEROUS VOLTAGE ON LINE - HAZARDOUS TO PERSONNEL"
as the test result.

Spent this evening dealing with #UKPowerNetworks I'm once again astonished how good their communication and response is. Hourly proactive calls or texts to me. Compare to #ThamesWater who do next to nothing, twice daily updates on their website if you are lucky. Also no charge for UKPN to visit to check if the fault is their or customer side.. compare to #Openreach #BT who smack the customer for Β£100+ if a fault is found customer side. We need to demand better from all other service providers.

On the saga of my FTTP... Talking to somebody I met who works for #openreach, it seems that the reason they installed fibre by us was not for us consumers, but that it would stop competition in the area. For us (6 house hamlet), this makes little sense, but looking at the bigger picture, they've ring-fenced a huge geographic area.
It seems they have little intention of going live with it until either they've sold into more profitable areas or a competitor starts making moved in this one.
Ho hum.
Last evening I spotted that some cable on a local telephone pole had come loose and was being blowing about. It was above head hight but if any more unravelled it could potentially have hit and really hurt someone. Reported it to Openreach hoping they'd come first thing this morning, but expecting it might take them several days to fix it. I'm pleased to say I was wrong - they arrived 3 hours later, just as it was getting dark and tied it up safely in less than 10 minutes.
Thank you #Openreach
Continuing the saga of my fibre (lit fibre five metres from the house, but #openreach say "Oh no, no fibre and no plans for fibre")...
I've just had an e-mail from Sky saying "Full fibre is now available". Absolutely no intention of going with Sky (and wondering how they got my e-mail address), but interesting...
Quick checks of #idnet and #aaisp shows it's still unavailable. Checking OpenReach also shows unavailable.
WTF?
I'm not really understanding how but #BT #Openreach based #FTTP service seems to be less reliable than my #VDSL service. My PPP drops for ~4 seconds regularly. 2pm today, 3am today, 3am yesterday, then once on 27th may, 23rd may, 18th may and beyond. Almost like the network I'm on isn't yet production ready!
Just what is going on with #openreach? Continuing the saga of FTTP to my house. Engineer on the ground confirmed we have lit fibre at the junction box right outside with full connectivity back to the exchange (not our local one, but the one in the nearest town). Openreach state that there are no plans for fibre anywhere near me (or in the town the exchange is in) and that as it doesn't exist, I can't have it installed.
I appreciate I may be being stupid, but how does that make any sense at all?
Today has started out well, it can surely only go downhill from here.
#Openreach engineer turned up outside my house this morning. Went out for a chat. Turned out he's a #fibre splicer connecting up a node right outside our drive with fibre running all over the place from there. He's already confirmed we have a lit feed from the exchange. Yay. He should be done in three days and then hand over to OR for commissioning. We should be able to order #FTTP within a fortnight. Double-plus yay!
So, #Openreach engineer arrived to fit my FTTP.
Whilst my ISP is awesome, they do rely on Openreach for the actual connection and they have a bit of a reputation. Any guesses on how this will go?
I think the #ADSL is down again...

So there is a #virginmediaoutage in the UK
This is why I've been hesitant to switch despite the nice deals they keep offering me
Virgin being unreliable & VPN unfriendly is not worth any amount of savings or speed boosts
Never had problems with BT service (their hubs are trash though) but I do need #openreach to upgrade our exchange - its the only 1 locally (of 3) not being upgraded to full fibre
We are not even a rural area
BT is reportedly looking for a new CEO https://www.telecomstechnews.com/news/2023/mar/27/bt-is-reportedly-looking-for-new-ceo/ #bt #openreach #ee #plusnet #uk #europe #telecoms #broadband #5g #news #tech #technology

You have to love BT Group bitching that the Openreach bit makes less money from chargeable repairs for its crappy old copper network as they move people to fibre:
"Revenue growth due to price increases and increased sales of fibre-enabled products and Ethernet, partially offset by decline in physical lines and decrease in chargeable repairs due to lower repair volumes"
Sorry you're not fleecing people to repair your old crappy service. What a terrible shame for you.
Still trying to get my head around the #openreach #fttp rollout. The fibre has been run (from the exchange in the nearest city, not local exchange, I'm told). Openreach fibre checker says "This exchange isn't in our major build yet" for both the local and the city exchanges.
Going to have to wait to see, I guess. Ho hum.
What I thought would be glorious has turned out to be less reliable than our VDSL TalkTalk line! Slightly regretting "upgrading" to BT provided #GPON fibre. It's dropped offline so many times for brief periods it's getting frustrating. I estimate about once every two days we have a few mins of no internet. This evening was the worst at 11 minutes. #openreach #fibre (yea, gigabit is great but if the infra is flakey and provides unpredictable service it's really annoying).
Two #OpenReach engineers unexpectedly turned up. They seem to know what they're talking about and are:
a) Pulling some more cable
b) Connecting all the ends together.
Sods law says #Zen won't be ready to start providing the actual service, but physical connectivity looks to be in the horizon.
