The metaphor of #Twitter as a "public square" is false. It calls to mind a small medieval courtyard where a hundred people are having an egalitarian discussion.

Such a village would be composed of people who share a similar background, worldview, religion, values, etc.

But on the internet, the "public" necessarily includes fascists.

In my view, it is a GOOD thing the #decentralization of #Fediverse moves us away from such an unfettered "public." An #opensociety cannot tolerate #intolerance
